Accessibility overlay

A third-party script that claims to make a site compliant automatically by patching it in the browser.

Overlays don’t fix your source code, frequently interfere with assistive technology, and don’t satisfy the law. In 2025 the FTC fined overlay vendor accessiBe $1M for deceptive compliance claims.

They’ve also become a litigation signal — sites running them are sued routinely.
